1. Texas A&M (5-0,2-0) Last Week’s Ranking: 1 (W vs. Mississippi State 31-9)
This Week: vs. Florida
Bottom Line: A&M has all the pieces. Dynamic QB, toughness at RB, speed at WR, nasty defense. Can they simply put it all together consistently for four quarters.
2. Oklahoma (5-0, 1-0) Last Week’s Ranking: 2 (W vs. Kent State, 44-0)
This Week: vs. Texas
Bottom Line: There are rumblings that Heisman contender QB, John Mateer could return this week. That would be a huge development. Weird things tend to happen at the Cotton Bowl in this one. Can the Sooners take care of business and put Texas to bed for 2025?
3. Ole Miss (5-0,3-0) Last Week’s Ranking: 3 (BYE)
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: What will the Rebels do at QB? Good chance both guys get to play this week before the schedule getting tough with road trips on deck to Athens and Norman.
4. Alabama (4-1,2-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 4 (W vs. Vanderbilt, 30-14)
This Week: @ Missouri
Bottom Line: The scoreboard did not reflect how tight last week’s game with Vandy really was. The Tide ultimately passed the test but things do not get any easier this week.
5. Georgia (4-1,2-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 6 (W vs. Kentucky, 35-14)
This Week: @ Auburn
Bottom Line: At no point was it pretty but Georgia took care of business last week inside Sanford Stadium against Kentucky. Auburn will be a popular upset pick against the Dawgs this week.
6. Tennessee (4-1,1-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 5 (BYE)
This Week: vs. Arkansas
Bottom Line: Revenge game for the Vols this week as they get the first shot from Bobby Petrino volume 2 and Arkansas.
7. Missouri (5-0,1-0) Last Week’s Ranking: 9 (BYE)
This Week: vs. Alabama
Bottom Line: Biggest game in a long time in COMO. The Tiger offense has been electric but has not been overly tested.
8. LSU (4-1,1-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 7 (BYE)
This Week: vs. South Carolina
Bottom Line: The Bye week came at the perfect time for the Tigers from a health perspective on the offensive side of the ball.
9. Vanderbilt (5-1,1-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 10 (L @ Alabama, 30-14)
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: Diego and the Vandy offense went silent in the second half last week at Bryant-Denny but proved that they can compete with anyone.
10. Auburn (3-2,0-2) Last Week’s Ranking: 11 (BYE)
This Week: @ Georgia
Bottom Line: This feels way too high to have Auburn and their inept offense, but the bottom of the rankings is a total mess. If things are going to get better for Hugh Freeze it needs to start now.
11. Texas (3-2,0-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 8 (L @ Florida, 29-21)
This Week: vs .Oklahoma
Bottom Line: Must win the rest of the way our for Sark and the Horns. The offense has been disappointing from day one, but the defense was no better last Saturday in Gainesville.
12. South Carolina (3-2, 1-2) Last Week’s Ranking: 13 (BYE)
This Week: @ LSU
Bottom Line: Did the Gamecocks overhaul their offense during the bye week? That is their only hope.
13. Florida (2-3,1-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 15 (W vs. Texas, 29-21)
This Week: @ Texas A&M
Bottom Line: Is there a better head coach in America than Billy Napier when he is backed into a corner? If the Gators can compete in College Station this weekend, they may be off and rolling.
14. Mississippi State (4-2, 0-2) Last Week’s Ranking: 12 (L @ Texas A&M, 31-9)
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: Injuries continue to mount up for State at important spots. The defense is in a whole different world from last year.
15. Arkansas (2-3, 0-1) Last Week’s Ranking: 14 (BYE)
This Week: @ Tennessee
Bottom Line: Bobby Petrino 2.0 has arrived and overhauled the whole defensive side of the ball. What will the response look like?
16. Kentucky (2-3,0-3) Last Week’s Ranking: 16 (L @ Georgia, 35-14)
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: Complete lack of talent is obvious in Lexington.
