Merry Christmas, everyone … unless you’re a Southern Cal fan, a member of the the College Football Playoff Invitational Committee, or ESPN.
For years, the narrative has been relentless: Notre Dame is “stuck in the past.” Critics griped about the independent schedule, the timeless uniforms, and the old-school stadium, insisting the Irish join a conference to “stay relevant” or “earn playoff credibility.”
Fast forward to today, and the irony of the hate coming full circle is sweeter than eggnog.
Notre Dame continues to compete at the highest level, producing NFL talent, headline-making seasons, and playoff-worthy performances. Meanwhile, the haters are still stuck in 2010, or maybe 1988, living in a loop of outdated complaints while Notre Dame quietly thrives.
The ultimate holiday miracle? The Irish are living in their heads rent-free, dominating the narrative without even trying.
Let’s talk logic for a second… I know that’s tough for some. Even if Notre Dame joined a conference, the haters’ argument evaporates. Conference champions don’t automatically make the College Football Playoff Invitational, just ask Duke. Independence hasn’t been a weakness, the only weakness is the haters’ ability to let go of a storyline that no longer fits reality.
So this Christmas, let’s toast to the irony.
Notre Dame remains a major player in college football, a program with history, prestige, and undeniable relevance. The haters? They get to unwrap the same stale complaints year after year, still trying to find a way to diminish a team that keeps thriving, and somehow living rent-free in their heads.
Merry Christmas, Notre Dame fans!
