Last week’s MACCC games delivered excitement and playoff-deciding moments.
No. 8 Gulf Coast made a statement with a dominant win over No. 12 Hinds. No. 15 East Mississippi’s high-scoring victory over Holmes secured their spot in the semifinals. No. 6 Co-Lin and No. 4 Northwest also closed the regular season with strong performances, setting up an intense weekend of playoff football.
In the North Division, East Mississippi defeated Holmes 50-39 to secure the division title. Northwest locked up the second seed with a 24-7 win over Itawamba.
In the South Division, Co-Lin defeated Northeast 34-16 in non-division play. Gulf Coast earned a share of the South Division title with a 31-10 win over Hinds in a must-win game.
Other results included Coahoma defeating Mississippi Delta 20-7, East Central beating Southwest Mississippi 27-13, and Jones College edging Pearl River 21-16.
The MACCC semifinals start Saturday, November 8. Two cross-divisional matchups will determine the championship pairing.
Northwest travels to Co-Lin
Both teams hold 8-1 overall records. Co-Lin claimed the top overall seed and home-field advantage. The Wolves boast a defense with 26 sacks and 63 tackles for loss. Northwest will need to handle that intense pressure. Kickoff is at 2:00 PM.
Gulf Coast travels to Scooba to face East Mississippi
The 8-1 Bulldogs meet the 7-2 Lions in a rematch from the season opener. East Mississippi secured the home game through the head-to-head tiebreaker over Northwest. Gulf Coast defeated East Mississippi 41-21 in Perkinston.
The winners advance to next week’s championship.
