Week 8 Preview: Critical Matchups Ahead
The MACCC enters a critical phase as North Division teams battle for three playoff spots and South Division teams compete for two. ICC leads the North at 4-0, while Northwest, East Mississippi, and Holmes remain in the hunt. In the South, Co-Lin holds the head-to-head advantage over Gulf Coast, though Hinds could capitalize on any slip-ups.
Week 8 will clarify which four teams could contend for the 2025 MACCC title.
Holmes vs. Northwest
Both teams are 3-1 in conference play. The winner stays in strong contention behind unbeaten ICC, while the loser faces steep playoff odds. Holmes hosts Northwest for Homecoming, recalling last season’s dramatic 37-35 Hail Mary finish.
Itawamba vs. Northeast
Northeast, eliminated from playoff contention, travels to Fulton to face rival Itawamba. The Tigers aim to salvage their season by challenging the Indians and potentially disrupting ICC’s North Division championship chase.
Mississippi Delta vs. East Mississippi
East Mississippi looks to take care of business against the struggling Trojans. The outcome of Holmes-Northwest will heavily influence the Lions’ playoff path.
Co-Lin vs. East Central
Co-Lin controls its South Division destiny. A win could secure the No. 1 seed, while East Central hopes to build on last week’s upset over nationally-ranked Jones.
Hinds vs. Pearl River
Hinds is the South’s dark horse. A victory keeps them in contention for a top-two seed, while an upset loss would end their title hopes.
Coahoma vs. Gulf Coast
The only non-division matchup of the week could be one-sided. Winless Coahoma hosts an angry Gulf Coast team looking to rebound from last week’s loss to Co-Lin.
Southwest vs. Jones (Saturday)
Southwest aims to salvage its season with a Homecoming win, while Jones looks to rebound after a loss that knocked them out of the national rankings.
Week 8 will define seeding, playoff paths, and momentum heading into the final stretch. Expect high-stakes matchups, intense competition, and outcomes that will echo deep into the MACCC postseason.ep into the MACCC postseason.
