1. Texas A&M (6-0,3-0)
Last Week’s Ranking: 1 (W vs. Florida 34-17)
This Week: @ Arkansas
Bottom Line: A&M again simply took care of business at Kyle Field against the flying high Gators. The vast number of athletes all over the field is strikingly apparent.
2. Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0)
Last Week’s Ranking: 3 (W vs. Washington State, 24-21)
This Week: @ Georgia
Bottom Line: The Rebels are not deserving whatsoever of rising a spot in the rankings this week yet the whole body of work leaves us here. Was the performance last week a simple matter of “looking ahead”? The Red & Blue faithful hope so.
3. Alabama (5-1,3-0)
Last Week’s Ranking: 4 (W at Missouri, 27-24)
This Week: vs. Tennessee
Bottom Line: The Tide seems to finally be rolling a little bit. Impressive performance last week in COMO. The scoreboard did not reflect how the Tide dominated.
4. Georgia (5-1,3-1)
Last Week’s Ranking: 5 (W at Auburn, 20-10)
This Week: vs. Ole Miss
Bottom Line: Complete tail of two halves for the Georgia Dawgs last week at Auburn. I continue to be concerned that Georgia matches up well in a track meet type shootout offensive game.
5. Tennessee (5-1,2-1)
Last Week’s Ranking: 6 (W vs. Arkansas, 34-31)
This Week: @ Alabama
Bottom Line: The Volunteer run game is electric but there seems to be concern about the long term health of starting back Desean Bishop.
6. Missouri (5-1,1-1)
Last Week’s Ranking: 7 (L vs. Alabama, 27-24)
This Week: @ Auburn
Bottom Line: Kind of crazy to think about but Mizzou is getting ready to head on the road for the first time this year. How does that translate in mid-October?
7. LSU (5-1,2-1)
Last Week’s Ranking: 8 (W vs. South Carolina, 20-10)
This Week: @ Vanderbilt
Bottom Line: Much like the entirety of the season so far, the Tiger offense was basically lifeless last week and the defense was elite. It certainly seems that is just going to be the way it is in 2025 in Baton Rouge.
8. Texas (4-2,1-1)
Last Week’s Ranking: 11 (W vs. Oklahoma, 23-6)
This Week: @ Kentucky
Bottom Line: Right when I was ready to write the Longhorns off they dominate Oklahoma. Arch was at his best but questions about the offense are still on the table. Was last week a turning point?
9. Oklahoma (5-1,1-1)
Last Week’s Ranking: 2 (L vs. Texas, 23-6)
This Week: @ South Carolina
Bottom Line: Complete laid egg for the Sooners with Heisman hopeful QB Mateer returning. Brent Venables crew better take South Carolina seriously on the road this week.
10. Vanderbilt (5-1,1-1)
Last Week’s Ranking: 10 (BYE)
This Week: vs. LSU
Bottom Line: Has Vandy ever been favored over LSU? Seriously. Massive opportunity on the table for the Dores this weekend in Nashville.
11. Auburn (3-3,0-3)
Last Week’s Ranking: 10 (L vs. Georgia, 20-10)
This Week: vs. Missouri
Bottom Line: The Tigers were literally within an inch of taking a 17-0 lead into the half and putting Georgia to bed last week and everything fell apart from there. Is it possible to recover or is the season over?
12. South Carolina (3-3, 1-3)
Last Week’s Ranking: 13 (L @ LSU, 20-10)
This Week: vs. Oklahoma
Bottom Line: Another offensive mess of a performance in Death Valley last week. Slobber knocker type game on the horizon.
13. Florida (2-4,1-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 13 (L @ Texas A&M, 34-17)
This Week: vs. Mississippi State
Bottom Line: Rumors about Billy Napier are swirling before the game is ever kicked off this week. What type of response will that prompt from the Gators?
14. Mississippi State (4-2, 0-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 14 (BYE)
This Week: @ Florida
Bottom Line: The Bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for MSU as they stroll into Gainesville feeling like they have a great chance.
15. Arkansas (2-4, 0-2)
Last Week’s Ranking: 15 (L @ Tennessee, 34-31)
This Week: vs. Texas A&M
Bottom Line: Bobby Petrino 2.0 arrived and scared the heck out of the Vols albeit late and in garbage time. Sort of feels like this team will sneak up and out-offense someone that they shouldn’t.
16. Kentucky (2-3,0-3)
Last Week’s Ranking: 16 (BYE)
This Week: vs. Texas
Bottom Line: Did the Wildcats find magic during the bye week?
