The 2025 MACCC football season has reached a pivotal stage. Divisional games now carry massive playoff implications. The top two teams from the North and South divisions will advance, but the paths look very different in each division.

South Division: Clear Leader, High-Stakes Second Spot

No. 4 Gulf Coast sits atop the South Division with a perfect 5-0 record and 3-0 in conference play. They control their own destiny and are favored to secure the number one seed. Their remaining schedule includes home games against East Central and No. 12 Co-Lin, followed by away games at Coahoma and No. 9 Hinds.

A win against East Central will put the Bulldogs on the brink of clinching a playoff spot.

The real drama in the South is the race for the second seed. Hinds holds a 2-0 conference mark and the head-to-head tiebreaker after a narrow 31-29 win over Co-Lin earlier in the season. Co-Lin must win out, including a matchup against Gulf Coast, to keep hopes alive.

Hinds at Jones is a critical game this week. A loss for Hinds could trigger a three-way tie and shake up the South’s playoff picture.

North Division: Four-Team Gauntlet

The North is a five-team chess match. ICC and Holmes lead at 2-0 in conference play. No. 7 Northwest and East Mississippi are close behind at 2-1. Northeast is still mathematically in the chase for the playoffs and can play spoiler for the postseason dreams of any team left on its schedule.

Head-to-head results will likely determine the two playoff spots.

ICC holds a key win over EMCC. EMCC beat Northwest and Northeast. Holmes beat Northeast but still faces all three top contenders, a brutal schedule that will define their playoff chances.

Upcoming North Division Showdowns

ICC at Holmes on October 16 will decide temporary control of the North’s top seed. Northwest at Holmes and ICC at Northeast on October 23 are high-pressure, late-season matchups that could reshape the playoff picture. Holmes at East Mississippi and ICC at Northwest on October 30 could determine the final seedings and decide which teams advance to the playoffs.

Losing any of these contests puts a team at serious risk of missing postseason.
