Week 4 clarified a lot in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference. Front-runners established themselves. Playoff races tightened. Every game carried weight.

Holmes continued its rise in the North. The Bulldogs scored 43 points against Northeast Mississippi in a win that highlighted both power and precision. Their running game dominated. Their defense forced key stops. Holmes now sits at the top of the North and looks ready to control its own destiny.

No. 10 Northwest bounced back from a Week 3 setback. The Rangers delivered a commanding 45-0 win over Coahoma. They shut down the Bobcats completely, showing the physicality and discipline that made them a preseason favorite. Every phase of the game clicked. This win reasserted Northwest as a serious contender.

Itawamba pulled off a critical victory over No. 12 East Mississippi, winning 34-24. The Indians leaned on a methodical ground game and special teams that made a difference when it mattered most. This head-to-head triumph puts ICC in a strong position in the North. East Mississippi now faces must-win games to stay in the playoff hunt.

The North is shaping up as a three-way battle. Holmes, Northwest, and Itawamba sit atop, while East Mississippi and Northeast remain dangerous but must avoid mistakes to stay in contention.

The South was no less dramatic. No. 5 Gulf Coast stayed unbeaten with a 40-23 win over Southwest. Their offense moves with balance and efficiency. Their defense made stops when needed. The Bulldogs have emerged as the team to beat in the South.

East Central provided the story of the week. They trailed Pearl River 20-0 after the first quarter but stormed back for a 37-27 victory.

No. 14 Co-Lin overcame Jones 31-20 behind a balanced attack and opportunistic defense. The Wolves outrushed the Bobcats 160-36 and forced three turnovers.

The South standings are starting to separate. Gulf Coast, Hinds and East Central sit at the top. Co-Lin is in striking distance. Southwest, Jones, and Pearl River will need to win out to remain relevant in the playoff chase.

Week 5 promises high-stakes games.

No. 7 Northwest travels to Northeast in a North clash that could decide who stays near Holmes. Itawamba visits Mississippi Delta. A letdown here could undo last week’s momentum. East Mississippi goes to Coahoma. A rebound is essential if the Lions hope to remain competitive.

In the South, No. 14 Hinds heads to East Central in a matchup that could define the division lead. No. 4 Gulf Coast travels to Pearl River. Discipline and ball control will be the keys for the Bulldogs. No. 11 Co-Lin faces Southwest. Both teams need a win to climb the standings.

Saturday Holmes will travel to Jones for the Bobcats’ homecoming in a non-division title.

Week 4 confirmed that the MACCC is about more than talent. Execution, discipline, and minimizing mistakes are crucial. Turnovers, penalties, and special teams miscues can erase even the best starts. Teams that control the line of scrimmage and maintain focus in all three phases are the ones that will thrive.

The North is competitive, intense, and volatile. The South is crowded, fast-moving, and high stakes.

Every game now matters. Every snap counts. The race to the playoffs is underway. Week 5 will separate teams that are ready from those still finding their way.
