1. Georgia
Last Week’s Ranking: 2 (W @ Tennessee, 44-41(OT))
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: A slow start did enough to scare the daylights out of the Bulldog faithful but what a response by the Georgia offense. For all of the questions that have surrounded Gunner Stockton he certainly excelled in Knoxville.
2. LSU
Last Week’s Ranking: 1 (W vs. Florida, 20-10)
This Week: vs. SE Louisiana
Bottom Line: The Tiger defense may officially be for real. The Tiger offense has been far from what we expected.
3. Oklahoma
Last Week’s Ranking: 5 (W vs. Temple, 42-3)
This Week: vs. Auburn
Bottom Line: The Sooners move up two spots to number 3 this week. Last week was a massive potential trap game and Brent Venables bunch was more than ready. Fun matchup against former QB, Jackson Arnold this week. If John Mateer plays well expect him to become the sure-fire Heisman favorite.
4. Texas A&M
Last Week’s Ranking: 6 (W @ Notre Dame, 41-40)
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: In what turned out to potentially be the game of the week, the Aggies escaped South Bend with a last second TD. If you have not bought Aggie stock, now is the time, as long as Marcel Reed can stay healthy.
5. Tennessee
Last Week’s Ranking: 4 (L vs Georgia, 44-41 (OT))
This Week: vs. UAB
Bottom Line: Just a heartbreaking loss for the Vols in Neyland last week. Joey Aguilar threw the ball all over the Georgia defense and it still wasn’t enough. Heupel has to wonder if he’ll ever be able to get Kirby.
6. Texas
Last Week’s Ranking: 3 (W vs UTEP, 27-10)
This Week: vs. Sam Houston
Bottom Line: Texas continues their cupcake schedule this week with a home
matchup against Sam Houston. If Arch had a different last name he’d be on the bench.
7. Auburn
Last Week’s Ranking: 7 (W vs South Alabama, 31-15)
This Week: @ Oklahoma
Bottom Line: We are about to find out if this Auburn team is for real as Jackson Arnold leads his new team into his old stomping grounds.
8. Vanderbilt
Last Week’s Ranking: 12 (W @ South Carolina, 31-7)
This Week: vs. Georgia State
Bottom Line: I have waited as long as I can to jump on the Vandy wagon. The Dores absolutely destroyed South Carolina at Williams-Brice in every phase last week. Revenge game on deck against Georgia State after losing last year.
9. Ole Miss
Last Week’s Ranking: 8 (W vs. Arkansas, 41-35)
This Week: vs. Tulane
Bottom Line: Trinidad Chambliss was terrific off the bench at QB last week willing the Rebels to victory. The defense was awful and should be thankful for a last-minute Razorback fumble.
10. Missouri
Last Week’s Ranking: 10 (W vs. Louisiana, 52-10)
This Week: vs. South Carolina
Bottom Line: Mizzou took care of business as they should against lesser competition. Beau Pribula and Ahmad Hardy have become a dynamic 1-2 punch.
11. Alabama
Last Week’s Ranking: 11 (W vs Wisconsin, 38-14)
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: Now that looked more like what we expect from the Tide. Ty Simpson proved that he can be the guy at this level.
12. Mississippi State
Last Week’s Ranking: 13 (W vs. Alcorn State, 63-0)
This Week: vs. Northern Illinois
Bottom Line: State could do no wrong last week against the SWAC’s Alcorn State. Be careful this week before a massive matchup in Davis Wade next Saturday against Tennessee.
13. Arkansas
Last Week’s Ranking: 14 (L @ Ole Miss, 41-35)
This Week: @ Memphis
Bottom Line: Sam Pittman has to know they just let a massive opportunity slip form their hands last Saturday night in Oxford. Defensively the Hogs are a mess. Tricky trip to Memphis this week.
14. South Carolina
Last Week’s Ranking: 9 (L vs. Vanderbilt, 31-7)
This Week: @ Missouri
Bottom Line: Dominated in every single phase on their own turf last week and suffered an injury at QB in the process. Things are not getting easier this week.
15. Florida
Last Week’s Ranking: 15 (L vs. LSU, 20-10)
This Week: @ Miami
Bottom Line: This is simply not the same DJ Lagway we saw late in 2024. Not a good recipe for the nations toughest schedule.
16. Kentucky
Last Week’s Ranking: 16 (W vs. Eastern Michigan, 48-23)
This Week: BYE
Bottom Line: The Cats may have found a new starting QB in Cutter Boley. Off week before two SEC road games up next.
