1. LSU

Last Week’s Ranking: 1 (W vs. La Tech, 23-7)

This Week: vs. Florida

Bottom Line: The Tigers were not impressive in the home opener but that is
somewhat to be expected after an emotional week 1 win at Clemson.

2. Georgia

Last Week’s Ranking: 2 (W vs. Austin Peay, 28-6)

This Week: @ Tennessee

Bottom Line: Much like LSU at number 1, the Bulldogs were far from impressive last week, but the whole game seemed awkward with the presence of the weather delay. Business picks up this week in the game of the week in Knoxville.

3. Texas

Last Week’s Ranking: 3 (W vs. San Jose State, 38-7)

This Week: vs. UTEP

Bottom Line: After a lackluster week 1 Arch and the Longhorn offense looked more like what we expected in their week 2 home opener. The rest of the Texas September schedule is overwhelmingly bland.

4. Tennessee

Last Week’s Ranking: 6 (W vs ETSU, 72-17)

This Week: vs. Georgia

Bottom Line: Over 700 yards of offense for the Vols against ETSU and the QB position is officially better with Joey Aguilar than they were last year with Nico. We find out this week if this Tennessee bunch is for real.

5. Oklahoma

Last Week’s Ranking: 12 (W vs Michigan, 24-13)

This Week: @ Temple

Bottom Line: Norman was officially rocking last week as Brent Venables’ crew took care of mighty Michigan. Potential Heisman buzz is already starting for John Mateer. Big rise for the Sooners in this week’s rankings.

6. Texas A&M

Last Week’s Ranking: 5 (W vs Utah State, 44-22)

This Week: @ Notre Dame

Bottom Line: The Aggies took care of business last week but also have some minor injury concerns regarding Marcel Reed. Fun matchup in South Bend that should help us learn a lot.

7. Auburn

Last Week’s Ranking: 8 (W vs Ball State, 42-3)

This Week: vs. South Alabama

Bottom Line: I am not totally bought in on the Tigers yet, but we are trending in the right direction. The defense was downright nasty holding Ball State to 68 total yards and Jackson Arnold proved he has to be respected throwing the football.

8. Ole Miss

Last Week’s Ranking: 7 (W @ Kentucky, 30-23)

This Week: vs. Arkansas

Bottom Line: One should take every SEC road win they get happily but something about this Rebel team just feels off. The youth at QB does not help that feeling. Things always seem to get crazy when Arkansas comes to town, will it happen again?

9. South Carolina

Last Week’s Ranking: 4 (W vs. South Carolina State, 38-10)

This Week: vs. Vanderbilt

Bottom Line: Much like earlier mentioned with Ole Miss, something just does not quite feel right with South Carolina, especially on offense. The good news is the defense has been even better than advertised.

10. Missouri

Last Week’s Ranking: 10 (W vs. Kansas, 42-31)

This Week: vs. Louisiana

Bottom Line: Fantastic come from behind win over Kansas last week. The Tigers are for real behind Pribula offensively.

11. Alabama

Last Week’s Ranking: 11 ( W vs UL Monroe, 73-0)

This Week: vs. Wisconsin

Bottom Line: Get right game for the Tide last week and they did just that. Will the rebound continue this week?

12. Vanderbilt

Last Week’s Ranking: 14 (W @ Virginia Tech, 44-20)

This Week: @ South Carolina

Bottom Line: The Dores blew the doors off of Va Tech in the 2nd half last Saturday night. I’ll admit I have struggled to get aboard the Vandy train but win this week and I’ll have no choice.

13. Mississippi State

Last Week’s Ranking: 15 (W vs. Arizona State, 24-20)

This Week: vs. Alcorn State

Bottom Line: I don’t know that a team has ever needed a win in a great atmosphere like the Bulldogs did in Starkville last week. There is no question that the defense is better but they got gashed on the ground in the 2nd half last week.

14. Arkansas

Last Week’s Ranking: 14 ( W vs. Arkansas State, 56-14)

This Week: @ Ole Miss

Bottom Line: Taylen Green and the Hogs offense has been electric to start the year but they haven’t beaten anybody. Huge opportunity to prove themselves this week.

15. Florida

Last Week’s Ranking: 9 (L vs. South Florida, 18-16)

This Week: @ LSU

Bottom Line: Totally embarrassing performance to an in-state, smaller school last week. The end feels near for Billy Napier.

16. Kentucky

Last Week’s Ranking: 16 (L vs. Ole Miss, 30-23)

This Week: vs. Eastern Michigan

Bottom Line: The Cats made Ole Miss sweat last week but in the end they did not have enough punch offensively. Will be interesting to see what they can do on that side of the ball this week
