Jigs on Wheelz: How a Fulton Native Is Reeling in Success One Jig at a Time

For Nash Bennett, fishing isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life. There’s something about being on the water that brings him peace, and now, it’s also fueling his small business dreams.

The 22-year-old from Fulton is the founder and creator of Jigs on Wheelz, a custom fishing jig business that’s gaining traction across the country. His journey began earlier this year, in February, when he started making jigs during his free time. What began as a fun, relaxing craft quickly turned into something more.

“I figured I’d make a little money and have fun while doing it,” Bennett said. “I’ve always loved being on the water, it’s just peaceful to me.”

But what exactly is a jig?

Fishing jigs are a type of lure designed to mimic the movement of baitfish in the water. They’re especially popular for catching species like crappie and bass, and they come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors. A good jig can mean the difference between an empty boat and a full cooler.

With the help of some good friends and a lot of trial and error, Bennett taught himself the craft of jig-making. He doesn’t stick to just one style, he enjoys making a wide range of jigs and trying out new designs.

“I like all types,” he said. “I love learning to make new stuff and all the different ways to do it.”

His creative process is simple but effective: he experiments with color combos and patterns based on what he thinks will work, and more often than not, those instincts pay off.

The name Jigs on Wheelz has a special meaning. Bennett was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair, and for years, friends have affectionately called him “Wheelz.” He embraced the nickname and worked it into his brand.

“I wanted to put my name into it,” he said. “So I came up with Jigs on Wheelz.”

And the name is catching on, literally. Bennett has shipped jigs across the country, from Oregon and New York to Florida and right here in Mississippi. He currently sells his creations through TikTok and Facebook and hopes to expand into a website and local stores soon.

Each crappie jig runs about $6 for a pack of three, and bass jigs go for around $5 apiece, plus shipping. Those prices are carefully calculated based on the cost of materials and the time and effort he puts into each lure.

“I make sure I can earn a little bit while still keeping it fair,” he said.

Of course, starting a business has its challenges. For Bennett, the hardest part so far has been getting his name out there, especially during the summer when many anglers have already stocked up.

But he’s learning every step of the way.

“One thing I’ve learned is to always have the money first before you make the baits,” he shared. “Sometimes people back out, and you don’t want to waste material.”

Despite the bumps in the road, Bennett stays focused on the bigger picture. He reinvests most of his profits back into the business, buying new materials and expanding his options. He hopes to one day open his own outdoors store and maybe even get his jigs on the shelves of big-name retailers like Bass Pro Shops.

He’s supported every step of the way by his friends and family.

“They push me to do my best every day,” he said. “If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

And yes, he does use his own jigs.

“I love catching crappie with them,” Bennett said with a grin.

To young entrepreneurs thinking about starting something of their own, Bennett offers simple but powerful advice:

“Take your time. Stay calm. There will be stressful days and easy days. But keep your mind on the big goal at the end, and make sure it’s something you love to do.”

With talent, heart, and hustle, Nash Bennett is proving that when passion meets persistence, anything is possible, even turning a hobby into a nationwide brand.
