Cena, Cody, Punk, and Pure Chaos: SummerSlam 2025 Preview and Predictions

NOTE: This was written after the Monday before SummerSlam.

SummerSlam 2025 is officially a two-night event, and honestly… it’s starting to feel more like a mini-WrestleMania than just another stop on the WWE calendar.

With MetLife Stadium set to host both nights and Cardi B serving as the official host, this year’s SummerSlam isn’t just stacked — it’s historic. Between title matches, emotional showdowns, and some deeply personal storylines, there’s so much to dive into.

So here’s how I’m looking at the “what ifs,” and those potential jaw-dropping moments we’ll be talking about for the rest of the year. Also, the guys from our wrasslin’ group chat chime in with their picks as well: Ricky Dale Murphy, Drew Abell, Derick McCoy and Brandon Speck.

Night 1: From Jelly Roll to Judgment Day, Get Me to Sunday

CM Punk vs. Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title

Punk finally has his moment in a world title match on a massive stage… but we all know it’s not that simple. Gunther’s no pushover, and then there’s the shadow of Seth Rollins and his Money in the Bank briefcase looming over everything. Even hurt, Rollins feels like a threat. That’s good storytelling.

Prediction: Punk wins, the crowd erupts… and then Rollins’ goons (Breakker and Reed) obliterate him. Not a cash-in — just a violent message. This feud isn’t over. It’s only getting meaner.

Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton for the Women’s Title

This feels like WWE officially crowning Jade. She’s been built like a star since Day One, and with a Queen of the Ring win under her belt, this is her launch pad.

Stratton’s had a solid run, but this is Jade’s night. Period.

Prediction: Jade wins clean. “Queen Jade” becomes a very real era on SmackDown. I don’t have to like it.

Orton & Jelly Roll vs. McIntyre & Logan Paul

Let’s be honest — this is fun. It’s silly, chaotic fun. Logan Paul’s probably going to take an RKO from the top rope, and Jelly Roll is going to get the pin and go viral.

Prediction: Babyface celeb debut = W. Orton and Jelly Roll win, and everyone in the crowd leaves happy. Paul, however, steals the show.

Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss for the Women’s Tag Championships

Rodriguez & Perez (Judgment Day’s power duo) vs. Flair & Bliss (the “we have issues” team). I love Flair and Bliss as a pairing, but this feels like it’s more about setting up their split than crowning them champs.

Prediction: The champs retain after Bliss and Flair implode mid-match. Expect that feud to kick off immediately after the bell.

Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed

This tag match is juicy. Reigns and Jey teaming up again is surreal after everything they’ve been through. Do I trust Roman? No. Does Jey? Not really either.

Breakker calling Roman a “relic” was bold. This match is gonna be physical and filled with tension.

Prediction: Reigns & Jey win, but not cleanly. Still some meat left on the bone with this storyline.

Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross

This has flown under the radar, but it might end up being the story match of the night. Kross trying to “break” Sami mentally? That’s rich.

Prediction: Kross wins. And Sami starts slipping, mentally. That slow-burn heel turn is coming.

Night 2: WWE Change of Face, Welcomes New Evil

Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena in a Street Fight for the Undisputed Title

This is going to be wild. Cody has to win. The story demands it. But what I’m most excited for is how he wins. There’s been talk of a double turn — and honestly, I’d love it.

Let Cody snap. Let Cena, in defeat, go out a hero. Give us the nuance.

Prediction: Cody finally finishes the story… but not as the same man who started it. I think we are all on the same page of a double turn in this match.

Naomi vs. Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Title

Naomi’s cash-in shocked everyone… kinda. This Triple Threat? It’s got the potential to steal the show. Iyo and Rhea are going to beat the hell out of each other, and Naomi’s going to outsmart them both.

Prediction: Naomi retains with some well-timed strategy. She’s got the brains and the momentum. I think Rhea and Iyo work better chasing the title instead of defending.

Solo Sikoa vs. Jacob Fatu in a Steel Cage for the U.S. Title

This family blood feud is nasty. Solo framing Fatu? Come on… that’s soap-opera-level villainy. And now they’re locked in a cage.

Prediction: Solo escapes, but barely. It’s the perfect slimy win to keep this feud alive.

Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria in a No DQ match for the Women’s IC Title

This might be the most emotionally charged match of the weekend. Mentor vs. protégé. Betrayal. Vengeance.

Prediction: Lyra has to win. This is her coming-out party. It’s going to be ugly and unforgettable.

Dominik Mysterio vs. AJ Styles – Intercontinental Title

Dom’s been ducking AJ for months. That ends here. This match is going to be sneaky good.

Prediction: Dirty Dom gets the win with some help from someone from TNA start a new storyline for Styles.

TLC Match – Tag Team Titles

Six teams. Tables. Ladders. Chairs. Oh My!

The Wyatt Sicks are creepy, chaotic, and tailor-made for this kind of environment. I’m afraid that this match will be too much of a mess to enjoy. There’s not a lot of excitement in the group chat about this one.

Prediction: Nikki Cross gets involved. Wyatt Sicks retain. And chaos reigns. Hopefully, they’ll do something to inject something into the Wyatt Sicks – they are kind of boring right now.
