SDN: Mitchell set to be named Starkville HS football coach

Multiple sources indicated Wednesday afternoon that Itawamba Agriculture High School head football coach Jamie Mitchell was set to become the next head coach at Starkville High School.

Mitchell’s hiring must be approved at the next scheduled meeting of the Starkville School Board on March 22 to become official.

Starkville High Athletic Director Stan Miller said he had a name to present to the school board, but wouldn’t confirm that it was Mitchell.

“I know there are rumors all over the place, but I can’t comment at this point and time,” Miller said. “I’ve got a name and I’ve turned it in. I’m hoping it’s going to be approved by the board on March 22nd at noon.”

A message left on Mitchell’s phone wasn’t returned.

Once approved, Mitchell replaces Bill Lee, who announced his retirement last November. Lee’s retirement will go into effect at the end of the current school year.
