AMORY – In a job search that drew statewide attention, Trent Hammond is the guy Amory settled on to be Amory’s next head football coach.
When Pat Byrd resigned and took the same position at Class 5A Saltillo, Amory had nearly 40 people call, email or inquire about the job.
“We ended up interviewing 20 people and from the coaching circles, he came as highly respected,” Amory superintendent Dr. Gearl Loden said. “He’s been a successful coach and won, as a coordinator, two state championships, and he’s been successful as a head coach.”
His Franklin County team lost in two games shy of Jackson in the 3A playoffs this year. In 2008, Franklin County lost to Tylertown in the South State title game.
