West Jones coach Scott Pierson knows it worked in his favor last year.
This time it didn’t.
The “it” being the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s much debated formula for determining home teams after the first round of the playoffs: The team that has played the least amount of home playoff games gets to host.
It’s a formula that has West Jones, a No. 1 seed from Region 3-5A, traveling to face rival Wayne County on Friday night in the 5A quarterfinals.
West Jones beat Wayne County 17-7 in the regular season on its way to earning the top seed but still has to travel to face a team that finished third in the region.
