Shawn Stricklin rushed for two touchdowns to help the Ackerman Indians (8-0, 2-0 Region 2-2A) defeat the East Webster Wolverines 31-0 last Friday night to remain unbeaten on the season.
East Webster (4-4, 0-2 Region 2-2A) already had a tough task in facing the high scoring Indians but Mother Nature didn’t do the Wolverines any favors. Muddy conditions resulted in three first half turnovers that helped the Indians jump out to a 19-0 first lead before cruising to victory.
Stricklin put Ackerman on the board first on a 4-yard touchdown run before an East Webster fumble resulted in a Josh Brown reception off a deflected Andrew Furr pass for the Indians’ second touchdown of the first quarter. Levias Simmons scored on a 3-yard run set up by a 47-yard punt return by John Cummings to cap off the first half scoring for the Indians. Cummings and Stricklin each added a second half rushing touchdown to round out the scoring on the night.
The Indians defense set the tone holding the Wolverines to 113 yards and forcing three turnovers on the night and pitching their second shutout victory in a row.
The loss means the Wolverines would have to win two out of their final three games against Hamilton, JZ George, or West Lowndes in order to make the Class 2A North State playoffs.
The week East Webster will play host to the Hamilton Lions (3-6, 0-2 Region 2-2A).
The Lions run a balanced offensive attack rushing for 473 yards on the season and passing for 397 yards.
Latedrick Troupe leads Hamilton’s rushing attack with 181 yards and three touchdowns while Deon Howard has 149 yards and Cojuante McMillan brings 123 yards to the ground attack so far this season. Austin Welch has completed 22-of-50 passes for 397 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. Kevin McArtney proves to be his top target catching 10 passes for 227 yards and all three touchdowns this season.
Next week the Wolverines will hit the road to take on the vastly improved JZ George Jaguars.
