Someone thought it would be funny to heckle Western Kentucky’s Chad Cregar with chants of “Rebel Reject” from the student section as the Rebels led by six runs, but three innings later it was the former Oxford Charger that had the final laugh.

Western Kentucky scored nine runs over the final three innings on Sunday night to force a Oxford Regional final with host Ole Miss Monday at 7 p.m.

Jake Wells‘ solo home run in the top of the ninth inning completed a comeback that saw the Hilltoppers trail 9-3 with nine outs to play with.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Pontotoc Red Sox opened their American Legion season with a 5-4 road win over Dothan on Sunday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Jordan Moore (Delta State) took the mound for the Sox and gave up one run on no hits through four innings pitched.  Latham Brister (Houston HS) replaced Moore in the fifth to give up two runs before being knocked off the mound in the seventh by a line drive to his hand.  Latham’s twin brother Landon Brister (Houston HS) gave up one hit before collecting the final out of the inning to hold on for the one-run win.

This story originally appeared at wtva.com

Mississippi State junior catcher Chelsea Bramlett has been named Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-America for the third-straight year, the association announced Wednesday afternoon.

Bramlett has also been selected ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America second team catcher along with teammate Sammie Jo Bailey, who makes the third team.

Bramlett joins Kellie Wilkerson (1999-2002) as the only Bulldogs to receive NFCA all-America honors three times, but the Cordova, Tenn., native is the only MSU player to be named to the first team three straight years.

Bramlett was named an academic all-American for the second-straight year, making her and Kate Jaspers (2003-2004) the only Bulldogs to receive the honor on multiple occasions.

Bailey’s selection to the third team infield is her first academic all-America award.

Cregar returns home and goes yard against Rebs

Sunday, May 31, 2009

Former Oxford High School standout Chad Cregar pulled the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (40-19) within 7-2 with a 2-run shot in the sixth and a two-run single by Matt Rice in the seventh cut the deficit to 7-4, but the Rebels (42-17) held on to win by the same margin to advance to Sunday’s 5:00 p.m. region championship game.

I had a chance to speak with Cregar after the Hilltoppers press conference on Thursday.
