Maggie Cobb missed the last game of the 2008 half of the season due to health concerns, but the senior guard returned with a vengeance Tuesday night scoring a team-high 25 points in the Lady Falcons 75-60 win over the Tremont Lady Eagles.
“Maggie had some problems with her heart, but she is all heart when she is on the floor,” Coach Richard Byrd.
“I was worried about how much I should play her, but she didn’t want to come out and played every minute of the game. Maggie is very important to us… when she goes, we go.”
Despite last taking the floor on the 19th of December, the Lady Falcons were firing on all cylinders as they jumped out to a 23-8 lead behind three three-pointers from Lyndi Kidd and another pair of threes from Kayla Stevens.
“We came back after Christmas with about five hard practices… the girls worked hard to get prepared for Tremont and paid off with the win,” Byrd.
Kidd wasn’t finished as she connected on two more threes in the second quarter to give the Lady Falcons a 42-24 halftime lead.
“That was the good thing that came from missing Maggie for the South Pontotoc game someone was going to have to step up for us to be successful… Lyndi was the one to do that for us,” Byrd.
“She stepped up for us and scored 17 points against South because she knew she was going to do something… if we get that out of her every night we will have a lot better chance of winning.”
The Lady Eagles made their adjustments in the second half to slow down the Ingomar offensive attack, but the Lady Falcons connected on 15-of-20 from the free throw line in the second half to keep pace and pick up the 15-point the division victory.
Cobb scored 25, Kidd 17, Shelly Grisham 12, Stevens added 9 while Brittany Edwards and Claire Wise chipped in 6 points each. Tessa Beam scored a game-high 28 and Kammi Lease scored 17 for the Lady Eagles.
Ingomar lit up Tremont for 10 three-pointers in the win — Kidd 5, Stevens 3, and Cobb added 2 more. The Lady Falcons also took care of business from the free throw line hitting on 20-of-28 from the stripe — Cobb shot 13-of-14 attempts.
The win gives Ingomar a 6-12 overall record, but more importantly gives them a 1-0 record inside divison play.
“This is what we have been playing for all year long,” Byrd. “This time of year is when you see what you are made of because every game counts here on out in division play.”
