Itawamba Community College sophomore Jason Marks has signed his national letter of intent to play basketball next year at Southeastern Louisiana. The lone returning starter for ICC head coach Marty Cooper’s 30-4 squad that finished fifth in the nation a year ago, decided on the Lions, who compete in the Southland Conference.

“I really believe Southeastern Louisiana is a really good fit for me,” said Marks, who has started in each of the Indians first 12 games this year.  “I’ve signed with good people who are also good coaches who can help me when I’m finished playing basketball.”

Marks is averaging 11 points and a team-best eight rebounds per night.  The former all-state selection at Parkview High School in Little Rock, Arkansas also leads the team in assists at 3.5 per contest and in free throw shooting at 83 percent (35-42) up from 5 percent a year ago.  Marks is also averaging a steal a game and his shooting 54 percent from the field for the preseason No. 12 ranked Indians.

“Jason is like a coach on the court for us,” said Cooper, whose current squad is 9-3 on the year and winners of its last six games. “I agree with Jason and think it’s a perfect fit for him and I think he’s a guy that can contribute right away for them.”

Last year the 6’5, 191 pound wing player, averaged six points, four and a half rebounds, two and a half assists and two steals a game, while shooting 57.5% from the field for the MACJC state champion Indians.
