7-6 (.539) in one season at Hawaii
McMackin’s career association mainly has been with Dennis Erickson, for whom he was defensive coordinator at the University of Miami (1993-94), and with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks (1995-98) and San Francisco 49ers (2003-05).
In between, he was the defensive coordinator at Hawaii in both 1999 and 2007, and at Texas Tech from 2000-02.
PRIME PERSONNEL
(17) Solomon Elimimian/(44) Adam Leonard – Senior linebackers were 1st-team All-WAC choices. Hawaii’s all-time leading tackler with 425 (112 this year), middle linebacker Elimimian shared the WAC defensive player of the year award this season.
(94) David Veikune – Playmaking defensive end was named team MVP while placing third in tackles (71), and first in tackles for loss (16), sacks (9), quarterback hurries (10) and forced fumbles (4).
(2) Ryan Mouton – Also a 1st-team All-WAC pick, the cornerback had 17 passes broken up or defensed this year. He added a 91-yard interception return for a score and a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
(12) Greg Alexander – After getting benched through the first half of the season, the JC transfer quarterback seized control and excelled in the latter part of the year. In the final six games, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound signalcaller completed 64.6 percent of his passes, averaged a stellar 8.5 yards per pass attempt, had 153 consecutive tosses without an interception, and competed 12 TD passes while throwing only two interceptions.
(5) Michael Washington – Diminutive 5-foot-9 first-team All-WAC wideout leads a balanced receiving corps with 56 receptions that averaged 12.4 yards per catch and included five TDs.
(55) John Estes – Junior 6-2, 295-pound center is the linchpin of the front line as a first-team All-WAC pick.
