West Lowndes just made Region 1-1A interesting after their 22-20 upset of the Vardaman Rams and already drawing questions about how the playoffs could shape up — here is my first attempt at making sense of the mess of the chase for the Region 1-1A playoffs.
East Webster 7-0
Smithville 5-1
Vardaman 4-2
Calhoun City 5-2
West Lowndes 4-2
Games left: October 24 – Calhoun City @ Smithville, October 31 – Smithville @ Varadaman, November 7 – East Webster @ West Lowndes
These results are not counting region upsets outside the current top five.
East Webster
The Wolverines are the number one seed no matter the result of their game with West Lowndes.
West Lowndes
A loss to East Webster the Panthers would need a Smithville win over Vardaman and a Calhoun City win over the Seminoles. A win over the Wolverines they would need a Smithville win over the Rams and a Calhoun City win over the Seminoles. A Calhoun City and Vardaman loss to Smithville would eliminate West Lowndes via the three-way tie breaker.
Smithvillle
The Seminoles can finish as high as the number two seed and the fall completely out of the playoffs. A win over Calhoun City and Vardaman the Seminoles are the number two seed. Splitting with the Calhoun County foes would put the three teams in a three-way tiebreaker with points pending the results.
Vardaman
A win over Smithville would the Rams in at the number two seed. A loss accompanied with a Calhoun City win over Smithville and a West Lowndes win over East Webster the Rams are out of the playoffs. A loss to Smithville and a Calhoun City loss to Smithville would put the Rams at number four and Calhoun City out of the playoffs with a West Lowndes over East Webster — a loss by West Lowndes would give City the number four seed.
Calhoun City
A win over Smithville the Cats are in, but could finish as high as second or as low as third. A Vardaman loss to Smithville would put City at second, Smithville at third, and Vardaman at fourth. A Vardaman win and City win over Smithville would put City at third and Smithville at fourth. A loss to Smithville the Cats still hold the head to head tie breaker over West Lowndes, but a Panther win over East Webster along with a Vardaman win over Smithville the Cats are out.
Even if that’s not right, that was a good attempt, lol. Do you know what the Division 2-1A standings are looking like. I know it’s probably all Ray Brooks, but I haven’t heard much about those teams.
That is my mission for Monday night – figuring out where everyone stands in the hunt for the playoffs… So I might be a little crazy when I make my way out to Smithville for the North State Softball games with Ingomar lol
This is what I have for 2-1A
Ray Brooks 6-0, 5-0
Greenivlle St Joe 6-1, 5-1 (loss to Ray Brooks)
Drew 5-1, 4-1 (loss to Ray Brooks)
Shaw 3-3, 3-2 (loss to Ray Brooks and Drew)
JFK 3-4, 3-3 (loss to Coffeeville, Drew, and Mont County)
Broad Street 3-4, 3-3 (loss to GSJ, Shaw, JFK)
Coffeeville 2-4, 2-3 (loss to GSJ, Broad St, and Ray Brooks)
Montogomery Co 2-5, 2-3 (loss to Drew, Shaw, and GSJ)
Coldwater 0-7, 0-5
Strayhorn 0-7, 0-6
Don’t be surprised to see Coffeeville make a strong push towards the close of the season and getting a playoff spot.
