Anna Taylor and Jayla Hubbard are the two newest members of Itawamba Community College’s 2008 softball recruiting class. Taylor is a first baseman/third baseman from West Union High School, while Hubbard is a catcher/utility player from Bruce High School.
Taylor went 24-41 at the plate this past spring (.585 batting ave.), scored 15 runs, drove in 23, had an on-base percentage of .674 and stole 10 bases. When you combine her 10 doubles, three triples and one home run, Taylor had a slugging percentage of more than 1,000.
Hubbard hit .428 and showcased an on-base percentage of .489 this past spring for the Lady Trojans. She was an all-region catcher in 2007 and 2008, was the team MVP back in 2005 and was selected to play in this summer’s high school all-star game.
ICC head coach Chad Case, who led the Lady Indians in his first year to a share of the north division title, was pleased to sign both of these standouts and welcomed them Wednesday into the ICC Family.
“Anna is a corner player who can hit the ball,” said Case, whose 2008 squad finished 13-3 in the division and advanced to the MACJC State Tournament in Clinton. “Jayla has a great arm and she’ll catch and also possibly play some other positions for us in the next two years.”
Case added he’ll sign three or four more recruits by the end of the month.
